You can forge a state in the wastelands of the fallout universe (Old World Blues). You can visit a hypothetical world where the German Empire won the First World War (Kaiserreich). You can learn most of what you need to know in a test run of Germany just screwing around, looking at menus, and trying things without worrying about strategy.Įven when you have played every country that interests you using every strategy that interests you accomplishing every goal that interests you, the world of modding beckons. Think of the learning stage as an investment.

If you like strategy or history and have some free time, I highly recommend getting into this game. After 1000 hours I still play this and find new things to do and new ways to have fun. You can play as any country in the world. That being said, if you can get past the first 10-20 hours there is a lot of depth here to be found here. You will have 1014.9 hours in the game and still not fully understand everything in this game (looking at you, naval designer). That being said, this is still a Paradox Interactive game, which means a steep learning curve, particularly if you are new to this company's games. This allows an adjustable amount of micromanagement that I personally really like and think needs to be in more games. You can manually do anything you want with your divisions, as well as with your individual fleets. Importantly these tasks, while having optional automation, can often be controlled manually as well. This does admittedly leave some to be desired for the extremely hardcore fans, to which I suggest buying Hearts of Iron III instead. It is much more approachable for the casual player by allowing the automation of many tasks with systems such as battle planning, assigning navies to regions instead of manually moving them around, and similarly assigning airplanes to regions. Hoi4 is in my opinion better than Hoi3 in many ways.

Pre-ordered it, watched the release stream, started downloading the second the game was available. Played Hearts of Iron III for hundreds of hours, amazed at the uniqueness of being able to play any country in the world, a concept I had not encountered in any other game. This is my favorite game of all time, as you can probably surmise from my playtime. I will be playing it quite a bit more thanks to it, particularly as I can’t help but love playing as the UK.Hearts of Iron IV Game Review by Jono_667 It isn’t perfect, and there is still too much micro-management, but HOI IV is significantly improved by Man the Guns. It was nice though as in previous incarnations, the UK were so passive vs Germany as to make them almost useless. For the Germany playthrough it made the game tougher as the UK and the USA were stronger opponents. It was also fun as the UK to instate an authoritarian monarchy and try and take over the world! With the USA I played it straight and was able to come to the world’s ‘rescue’ from 1942 onwards. With regards to the UK and the USA, both of whom rely on their navies a lot, it has the biggest impact.

In every instance I can safely say that the expansion improves the game significantly. I’ve already done three playthroughs, as the UK, USA and Germany.

Significantly improved naval management – you can now design ships, manage them in different theatres and re-fit existing ships – it sounds quite small but a makes big difference, particularly if you are the UK and want to upgrade your existing fleet.Man the Guns is the latest expansion for HOI IV, adding significant depth to an already dizzying amount of features, including:
